Subject: JaNell Surgery Report 2012.03.05 Day 89 Hello All, • The good news: JaNell felt good today. She worked out in the gym, using weights and an exercise bike. She traded in her hospital gown for street clothes today. • The not so good news: This evening, for no apparent reason, she developed a case of nausea and threw up. This is the first incident in past several days. Just before she got sick, she said that she had the sensation of being too full. This is puzzling because she ate lightly today, and only drank the liquid from her vegetable soup, at dinner. • Blood pressure 124/80, Fistula and JP drain output - light, White blood cells 14.6, Temperature 99.3 low-grade fever. More later, terry |
Subject: JaNell Surgery Report 2012.03.06 Day 90 Hello All, • JaNell had another good day with physical rehab. She rode an exercise bike and worked with weights. • Some not so good news: nausea persists with gagging on one occasion tonight at 8:30. • Some really good news: Her doctor released her today, and says it’s OK to leave Scottsdale and travel to Las Cruces. We plan to leave for Las Cruces on Thursday. Praise God, terry |

Subject: Fwd: JaNell Surgery Report 2012.03.12 Kelly Text FWD: Mom fell this morning getting back into bed. Fracture in lower back, disc smashed together. May heal on its own, she will be able to walk but will be painful. Pain now being managed with medication. Being admitted to memorial medical center for further evaluation on fracture. Kelly Text FWD: Mom will be in hospital for 24 to 36 hours to monitor how she is. Dr will assess her at that time. Her pain is being managed with medication, she is resting. • JaNell fell this morning at about 6:30. She was transported by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center. After viewing the CT Scan results, the emergency room doctor stated that the injury would not affect her ability to walk, and the injury was not a threat to her spinal cord. That's the good news... The bad news is that recovery will be painful. He said that the fracture may heal by its self, or a procedure may be performed in which a material would be injected, to repair the fracture. * JaNell's sister, Sandra, is coming to Las Cruces tomorrow. Kelly will pick her up in El Paso at 6:00 PM. terry |
Subject: JaNell Surgery Report 2012.03.13 Hello All, • JaNell had a hard day of pain. The pain was probably as bad today as it has been through this whole ordeal. Her nurse called the doctor and got his authorization to increase the morphine level. • A physical therapist came today and helped her sit up on the edge of the bed. She was encouraged that she was able to do this. But later, she theorized that sitting on the edge of the bed was what initiated the pain. • A technician came and discussed fitting her with a back brace, which would force her to “bend at the hip rather than bending at the waist,” thus relieving pain. • JaNell’s sister Sandra arrived today. Thank you for your prayers and concern, terry |
Subject: JaNell Surgery Report 2012.03.15 Day 99 Hello All, • The doctor reduced the amount of JaNell’s medication (morphine,) and supplemented it with a Fentanyl patch. • She experienced a low-grade fever today. A blood sample was taken to provide a culture test, to analyze the extent of bacterial infection. • The wound fistula remains active, with a low level of drainage. • She will receive a lumbar epidural injection, with sedation, in the morning at 7:00, to control back pain. (Dr. Velarde) • Antibiotic Avelox was administered for bacterial infection. • She watched NCAA March Madness (NMSU VS Indiana.) • Ron came for a visit today. Thank you for your concern and prayers, terry |
