We are happy to hear that JaNell is doing better. JaNell and all of you are continually in our thoughts and prayers. We hope you will get to come home soon; also nice to know you are pleased with Mayo Clinic.
Betty/Charlie

So glad she is doing good. I know she"ll be glad to get that tube out of her nose. Just do exactly as they say though. Sometimes we think we"re stronger than we really are and its so easy to over-do. King told me Cassan and Adams were coming in Sun. for that Professor's funeral. I don't know how they managed La Posta without you guys!!!

Hello All,

Yesterday JaNell was up walking to the end of the hall, with the help of two therapist. She kinda over did it
which resulted in being short-of-breath. Kelly and I were at lunch and didn't observe the drama that developed
between JaNell and the therapist. She felt that they took her on a walk that was a little to long. Word must
have leaked out, because a kind doctor came in this morning and wanted to talk about "a non medical issue."
JaNell didn't pick up on the subject, so nothing was discussed about her traumatic walk.

More therapy is scheduled for today, but for a shorter distance, with short breaks, and with a chair being taken along for back-up.
Her new nurse, Lois, has given her some exercises for her circulation and breathing.

I slept over in the room last night and was able to catch her surgeon on his early morning rounds. He discussed
the surgery in greater detail, describing how he removed one third of her stomach and one sixth of her colon, along
with her spleen and appendix. All biopsies taken tested positive. The disease originated
in the appendix and had spread to a wide area. Lets pray that the surgery and chemo therapy will be totally successful.

JaNell wouldn't let him get by with just saying that she was doing, "good." She told him that she made her junior high
English students describe what they meant by, good. He laughed and said, "You are doing as good as any other patient
i've had, at this stage of recovery." She got busted for having too much ice to eat, he limited her to one cup every four
hours. I got a chuckle out of her when I ask her if she felt like biblical character, lazarus.

In place of removing the tube in her nose today, and risking the possibility of having to reinsert it, if her body functions didn't take over, they just clamped
it off. Hopefully, both the nose and chest cavity tubes can be removed soon.

All in all, things are "good" today, she has started worrying about how her hair looks.

It's hard to describe how important your prayers and caring are to us,

terry

I have her name on the pad under my phone so that everytime I pass through to the kitchen and back I can whisper for her....

Love you.

So happy to hear that JaNellie is doing "good". LOL. That is funny. We will hope and pray that the dr. got all of the problem and she will be fine. Isn't that unusual that the disease would start in the appendix. I never thought that was something that could ever happen. Don't know why since it can start anywhere, I guess. I can imagine she will feel better when she gets those tubes out. They are necessary, but they are a royal pain. Hope she is sleeping well, too. Yep, the hair gets pretty mangled when you go through what she did. But it will probably bug her till she can do something with it. LOL. You guys take care and tell her to get well soon. Later.......................

Marjorie

Thanks for the detailed update.
Terry, don't you just love the desert landscapes around Phoenix. I really do
miss that. I love the saguaro cactus. Thanks for the pics.
JaNell sounds like me when it comes to doctors and hospitals. I think they
should answer all questions and not beat around the bush.
I, also, don't think that just because they are a nurse or therapist that they
understand everyone's body.
When I had my heart attack in 2004, the little nurse kept trying to get the
thing they put the IV in and I finally told her to stop and go get someone
who knew what they were doing. I wasn't going to be used as a pin cushion.
The other nurse came in, sat down and I never even felt it.
So, I am glad she is keeping them straight. LOL
Keep us posted. I am forwarding your updates to Doris. We have JaNell
on several prayer lists.
Take care
Marcea

Terry,
Thanks for the update on JaNell. So sorry she is having to go through all this!!
Lawrence went through a similar situation with his therapist when he fell from the tree in his yard and broke his hip. After an especially painful session with the therapist, who insisted Lawrence exercise more streniously than Lawrence thought necessary, Joan couldn't take watching & listening any longer, left the room, and came out to the waiting room to sit with all of us. Her cell phone rang & it was their daughter calling asking. "How's Dad doing?" Joan casually responded, "Well, your Dad just threathened to kill his therapist!" Now, three years later, he's back to walking 4 miles every morning just for fun.
We do realize how serious this has been for JaNell and can truly sympathize with all she is going through. Just praying the time will pass quickly for her & she'll be on her feet & out of there relaxing in the little apartment & heading toward full recovery.
Give us a "clue" of anything we can do or send that would help in any way.
Thinking of all with love,
Adrienne & Ben

OK Terry- thank you for the report sounds good. And it appears that we
may be getting our priorities right with the concern about the hair :)
