Funeral services for Ray Terry, 68, of Portales, NM will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday November 8, 2007, at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Calvin Vernon officiating. Burial will follow at Portales Cemetery. Ray was born on July 7, 1939, in Portales, NM to Joseph and Mary Terry. Ray married Joan Martinez in Clovis, NM on August 19, 1985. After school Ray worked for his father in farming, then Ray became a truck driver for Shell Oil, Navajo Refinery in Big Lake, Texas and Roswell, NM. Ray also managed a local service station and had worked for a feed store in Causey, NM. Ray was also a Farm manager at Christian Children's Home. Ray loved to build model cars and airplanes, made jewelry and loved racing. He was a collector of black powder rifles and pistols. Ray's biggest love was riding motorcycles, he even taught his wife and sons to ride. Ray was Santa Claus every year for the Mayors Christmas tree, was a story teller and loved to cook. Ray is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters; Lola Mae, Lucille, Annie, and Ruby. Also preceded by brothers; Louis, Pete and Bill. Ray is also preceded by a granddaughter Jennifer. Ray is survived by his wife Joan, his sons, Joe H. Terry and wife Sandy of Portales, NM, Manuel Terry of Portales, NM and David Hitzges of Fort Myers, FL. Ray also leaves daughters Margaret Campbell and husband Jack of Portales, NM, Gail Terry of Portales, NM, a brother David Terry and a sister Ruth Weems of Portales, NM. Ray also leaves 5 grandchildren and 2 Great grandchildren. Arrangements under direction of Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
