Day 72

Hello All,

• Today was a good day with the exception of some muscle spasms, which required pain medication (Valium.) Dr. Farricielli says the tube in her side causes the spasms.

• White blood cell count today 12.4 – yesterday 17.1

• Walked 220 feet - fast - only one stop.

• Dr. Farricielli reduced TPN by one half to increase JaNell’s appetite.

• Wound nurse, Heather, says the wound is healing and looks good.

• Taco Bell run for lunch, Nana ate one...

Thank you for your prayers,

terry

Hello All,

• JaNell had a good day, as far as not having nausea, but had a low-grade fever.

Day 75

Hello All,

• JaNell encountered some speed bumps today. Her temperature went up to 103 this afternoon, but was rapidly brought back down with the use of medications. A nurse gave her Valium for muscle spasms at 3:00 pm.

• Dr Shaw says her wound is healing and looks good. JP drain only had 20 cc.

• She had a good work out, walking 265 feet.

• She started preparation for a CT Scan, which will be at 1:00 pm tomorrow, at mayo.

• Favorite food: vegetable soup – Chile with beans.

Thank you for your prayers,

terry

Staples Goodies -
Printed up my coupons, and went shopping.
I earned four bucks, by spending funny money at Staples.
Wanted to get a couple of Motorola wireless keyboards for the iPads.
I talked the store employee into letting me try them out, in the store, to see if they were compatible.
They weren't.
Gave Kelly some of this stuff...

Thank you,

terry

Day 76

Hello All,

• Good news: Dr Wasif says the CT Scan shows there are no new pockets of fluid trapped in the abdomen. He thinks the one remaining JP drain can be removed soon.

• The wound looks good and is healing. The out put from the fistula is small, and it will probably heal itself, and not require surgery. The goal is to control infection and let it heal on it’s own.

• JaNell has another appointment with Dr. Wasif in two weeks. She will probable stay at Kindred hospital or another facility, that we are looking at, in Scottsdale.

• More good news: she is gaining an appetite and her doctor says she can eat anything she wants. (another run to Taco Bell was required tonight - for Nachos.)

• A good day with the therapist - JaNell walked a record setting 470 feet, without having to sit down and rest.

• Adema still continues to be a problem.

Thank you for your prayers,

terry

Day 77

Hello All,

• One step back: today has not been one of JaNell’s best. She was tired all day and unable to do physical training. When I arrived at the hospital at 8:30 she had gone back to sleep, while the nurses were dressing her wound. She slept a considerable part of the day. On the plus side there was no nausea or fever. It’s possible she over exerted herself yesterday walking, and during the visit to Mayo.

• Due to her lethargic condition today, we canceled an appointment with her oncologist at Mayo Clinic Scottsdale. The appointment was later rescheduled for Feb. 28th.

Story developing,

terry

Day 78

Hello All,

• JaNell had a good work out today with, Victor, her new occupational therapist. He showed her some new exercises, which will build up mussels in her arms and shoulders. She played catch with one of the therapist, and walked without her walker, by holding on to her IV pole.

• some good news: no nausea or high temperature.

• some not so good news: the wound nurse discovered another fistula.

• JaNell was given Valium to treat muscle spasms. The medicine caused her to sleep a lot today. I failed to mention in my email yesterday, that her drowsiness yesterday was caused by low blood sugar.

• JaNell’s favorite food: Hamburger with fires, avocado with lemon juice and salt.

• Kelly and Rebecca are leaving for Scottsdale early Saturday morning.

Thank you for your concern and prayers,

terry

Day 79

Hello All,

• JaNell hasn’t felt well all this week, progress has been slow. She was sick and threw up at 4:00 this morning and had a low grade fever this evening. She thought that the avocado she ate yesterday brought on the sickness. JaNell attributes her condition this week to the preparation for the CT Scan on Monday, the trip to, and waiting at Mayo for the CT Scan, and high blood sugar.

• the fistulas in her wound have increased out-put. Her doctor put her on NPO status again.

• She slept most of the day, and was unable to work with the physical therapy technicians.

More later,

terry

Day 80

Hello All,

• The wound doctor says JaNell’s wound looks good, and is healing well. He is concerned with the low-grade fever she is experiencing.

• Her white blood cell count is 16. She is receiving a Fentanyl patch for pain management. This medication probable causes some of her drowsiness.

• Kelly and Rebecca cheered up Nana today playing Skip Bo. (Nana Won)

What has Rebecca done to her hair???

Hi Traci,

She has a bleached lock on one side (in the photo, it looks as if the side of her head is shaved.)
