December 10, 2011 8:56:46 AM MST Hello All, Yesterday started off with some unwelcome surprises. Apparently an air pocket was left in the rib cage at the completion of surgery. JaNell was moved to a radiology lab where a tube was inserted into her side to remove the air. The air pocket had caused one of her lungs to partially collapse. Another problem was noted when her kidneys weren't functioning properly. These situations were taken care of yesterday and she was resting well, with no pain, when we left at 11:00 p.m. last night. She talked them into letting her use her CPAP, so she could sleep. When I arrived at her room for the afternoon visit, she was livid about the noise coming from the hall way. She said the nurses sounded like a bunch of junior high students she use to teach. Over all we are very pleased with the hospital, doctors and staff, and the wonderful place that the American Cancer Society is providing for us to stay. Spotted a pack of coyotes out our back window yesterday morning. They were just trotting along like Wily Coyote in the movies. Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers, they are important. More Later, terry |
December 10, 2011 8:56:46 AM MST I'm anxious to know how Ja Nell is. I know you are spending every moment with her, but a quick note will be very welcome. |

December 10, 2011 9:34:49 AM MST Thanks so much for the update. I was so glad to hear that they are keeping JaNell relatively pain free. Of all my seven surgeries the one that I remember most for pain is the colon resection and she had SO MUCH more. That has kept me praying much of yesterday thinking of that pain!! But I won't stop. |
December 10, 2011 9:35:30 AM MST I'm looking forward to today's report. Hope JaNell's progressing well. I'm also glad to hear she's giving the nurses "what for" (as Ms Hamilton used to say). This means she's improving. |
December 10, 2011 9:51:57 AM MST Hi ... so glad to hear that JaNell is doing better. You might know the teacher would come out with the "students" running noisily down the hall! Those nurses better watch out! I'll bet she wishes she had those sponge earplugs while teaching :-))! |
December 10, 2011 2:11:17 PM MST Wow...I doubt that I could be as up-beat as you are about the unnecessary noise (aren't these nurses professional?) -- or the additional medical "situations" JaNell was forced to endure. |
