Terry and Adrienne In Front Yard. The kitchen window is on the left. The kitchen had a wood stove, propane refrigerator, small oak dining table; the cupboards on the wall were made from wooden orange crates with a salt sack curtain on the front. A structure was built on the outside of the house over a window, to keep the milk cool; it was called "the window." It was a box covered with screen wire. The milk was places there, in gallon jars, wrapped in wet rags. The evaporation of the water kept the milk cool. |
