Four Roses As Grandma Turner aged and her heart weakened, her doctor recommended that she take a drink of whiskey every day. She kept a bottle of Four Roses on a stand by her bed. No one knew "How Many" sips she took each day. She had a dirt filled coffee can on the floor by her bed, which she used as a spittoon. |
Garret Snuff Grandma Turner loved Garret Snuff. It was Adron’s job to go down by the windmill, at the bluff north of the house, and dig up “hackberry roots” to make a “tooth brush,” as she called it, to facilitate her snuff dipping. She liked to dip the root into the snuff and then place it in her mouth. Adrienne said that a relative told her a story about Grandma Turner’s snuff dipping; the relative said that every page of her bible had a snuff stain on it, as a result of her licking her fingers before she turned the pages. |
