"When I was a boy growing up in Portales my grandmother (Adrienne's Aunt Lizzie) and Grandpa Goodwin lived right in town.  As I recall their home was on an entire city block--where the Hotel now stands.  Grandmother had a cow, a horse, chickens and geese, rabbits and puppy dogs and kitty cats...I don't remember pigs, but maybe she had those too.  It sure is a different world we're living in today, isn't it?  Can you imagine having a menagerie like that in a town only a block or two from the Town Square and County Court House??"
