We moved to Clovis now, which is general headquarters for Bolly’s work. We have bought a home and some new furniture, but we aren't one bit more proud of this home than we were of our new rock house on the homestead. We are working very hard to beautify this home. Last summer we planted grass both in the front yard and the back. And last fall I sent our a dozen rose bushes and one hundred tulip bulbs. We went on a fishing trip up into the mountains of Colorado and brought back a dozen pretty little fir and spruce trees which we set our in the yard and they are all still living except one. In the spring we intend to put out some larger trees for shade trees and lots more flowers, Spring is almost here and I can hardly wait to get out and begin digging in the earth. I love to plant flowers and watch them grow.
Although nine years have passed, our home has not been blessed with children, so we have given up all hope of ever having any of our own, but we are planning to adopt two or three in due course of time. We haven’t decided just how many we want but we think we would like to have two girls and a boy.
We have realized that there is something missing and that a childless home is a poor substitute for a really happy home. Although a baby is the only thing that could have made our home any happier than it has always been. Since we can have none of our own, the way we figure it, the next best thing to do is to take some other unfortunate children who have no home. So in this manner we are striving to make our home as nearly perfect, as it is possible for us, under the circumstances, to make it.
During the Christmas Holidays last year we brought two darling little girls into our home from the Orphanage. They were fifteen months old and three years old. They were just as sweet as they could be. Their mother and father were separated and the mother had been trying to take care of them. The father had helped her financially until he became ill and was unable to do so longer. So she put them in the Home for a while until she could work in order to care for them.
We kept them five days, trimmed a lovely Christmas tree for them. Bought a few clothes and toys for them and had a grand time playing Santa Clause for them. We became so attached to them that we wanted to adopt them. But we were unable to do so as they weren't for adoption. We could have kept them awhile longer though, but we were becoming so attached to them already that it would have been too hard to give them up later had we kept them longer. So we took them back to the Home and later the mother called for them.
A short time later we had a chance to get a tiny baby, so we took it and are now the proud parents of a fine baby boy. We have had him such a little while but he has already won a place in our hearts and seems just like our very own. When he is a little older we will adopt a little girl or two until we feel that our family is complete.
Now we have something else to live and work for, a foundation on which to build our future.
